Ballet Company
All of us here at Greensboro Ballet have great respect for traditional classical ballets and faithfully produce those works whenever possible. Our repertoire includes these cherished classics of the 19th and 20th centuries:
- The Nutcracker
- Sleeping Beauty
- Giselle
- Swan Lake
- Firebird
- Coppelia
- Les Sylphides
Greensboro Ballet has also presented 20th century works by the renowned George Balanchine, including Valse Fantasie and Serenade. Wanting to move forward and stay in step with the evolution of ballet in America, Greensboro Ballet has had a large number of works created especially for the company by Rick McCullough, Jill Eathorne Bahr, Leslie Jane Pessemier and Emery LeCrone. Our own artistic director, Maryhelen Mayfield has created over 25 works for the ballet company and ballet mistress, Elissa Minet Fuchs has contributed over 10 works. Creativity is the life blood of ballet and moves the art form forward through history and inspires and supports the ballet company dancers‚ own development as performing artists.
Greensboro Ballet believes that ballet has something to offer everyone. Ballet company dancers are not only presented in public performances, but also participate in numerous outreach and education programs that instruct, inform and enrich the educational experience of students in our schools and members of our community. Our dancers are beautiful, accessible and dedicated to bringing ballet to all who wish to share the experience that ballet performance can offer.
